“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12 The Bible.
When most people of faith hear this passage, I am convinced they think that the writer is referring to the Bible when the text says “the word of God”. But consider:
– The Bible did not exist when Hebrews was written.
– The rest of Chapter 4 and, indeed, the theme of the whole book of Hebrews.
– John 1.
The word of God is God Himself, or, more specifically, Jesus The Christ.
I believe that this is an important and necessary distinction if the “word of God” – my healing Savior with his sharp surgeon’s scalpel – is to work more fully in and through me.
