THE WORD “WORSHIP” IS A VERB, NOT AN ADJECTIVE! VLOG

What comes to mind when you hear the word “worship”?

In its original meaning, the word “worship” means to ascribe worth or value to something. So to worship God is to show the value of God.

Have we in our church culture contributed to a misunderstanding of the worship of God; especially in recent years? Through our practices and the language we use, do we communicate that the worship of God is limited to a very specific time – like a Sunday morning gathering – and a very specific activity – like singing songs to and about God?

Shouldn’t the worship of God – or the “worth-ship” of God – involve a whole lot more than that?

I explored these questions in a recent interview with legendary Nashville artist manager Mike Smith.

“The opportunity to ascribe worth or value to God MUST NOT be limited to 1 hour 15 min. on a Sunday morning, must not be limited to just when I’m singing songs to Him.”

“I believe I can show the value of God by how I love my wife, by how I spend my money, by how I conduct myself, by the next word out of my mouth when someone is being difficult to me – wherever I am. Every moment of every day is an opportunity to worship God.”

“If Jesus is in my heart, if it’s true that my body is a temple, if it’s true that I’m a new priesthood and I’m in the presence of God right now, then where God is, He must be being worshiped, He must be.”
